The new UN special representative for Somalia, Nicholas Haysom held meeting with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Monica Juma in Nairobi on Monday 22nd October 2018.
The two discussed the current situation in Somalia especially the political standoff between the Federal Government of Somalia, Member States and Security in Somalia.
The discussion also touched on the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which highlighted on the importance to fight the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab from a united front.
They called on UN Security Council (UNSC) to provide multipliers and force enablers in order to facilitate AMISOM’s operation even at a time the AU forces are preparing to exit Somalia and handover security responsibility to the Somali National Army (SNA) by 2020.

Kenya is one of the AMISOM troops contributor and it sent combat forces into Somalia on October 14, 2011 to battle Al-Shabaab following a number of attacks and kidnappings on its soil.
Other AMISOM troops’ contributors include, Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and Djibouti.
