Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu has announced that the Russian Air Force has cumulatively conducted 40,000 air strikes since its intervention in Syria in 2015. Further, he said that the airstrikes have hit over 122,000 facilities used by the terrorists and that facilitated the advancement of the almost-defeated self-proclaimed Islamic caliphate.
The Russian intervention in Syria has been labeled by authorities as an active aid rendering to a strategic ally of the Eastern Europe nation. Russian officials have been cited as saying that, apart from fighting terrorist organizations such as ISIL, Russia′s goals included helping the Syrian government retake territory from various anti-government groups.
The Russian intervention has been viewed as both controversial as well as necessary as it has helped the Assad regime topple and oust most of the Baghdadi established governance in areas that had been taken over by the terror organization. Thus, Russia can be credited as one of the most crucial partners in Syria that has contributed to the almost total defeat of ISIS and other minor terrorist organizations.
