Somali National Army (SNA) backed by African Union Troops have captured several key villages in Hiiraan region following a series of security operations geared at liberating the areas from the militants’ hold. In a well-coordinated operation, the allied forces took control of Dibiley, Fahale and Burweyn villages in Hiiraan region.
While the allied forces are still in the area to liberate the area, it is evident tatt the al Shabaab has lost its hold and might that they once had. The same is echoed by the preliminary report of the operation that indicated that the militants have been fleeing the area as they lack the manpower and resources to mount an attack against the allied troops.
The latest attack came amid increased military operations in the southern regions of the country, conducted jointly by African Union forces and the Somali National Army. Also, locals have been playing an active role in the liberation of the areas a move that can be interpreted to mean the al Shabaab has lost its leverage with the communities.
