U.S. Navy awarded Boeing a $805.3 million contract for production and delivery of four MQ-25A unmanned air vehicles after months-long competition.
In a statement on August 30, Boeing announced that it was awarded a $805,318,853 fixed-price-incentive-firm-target contract by U.S. Navy to provide design, develop, fabricate, test, certification, delivery and support of four MQ-25A unmanned air vehicles.
Boeing added that the work will be done in St. Louis, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Quebec, Canada; Palm Bay, Florida; San Diego, California; and various locations inside and outside the continental U.S., and scheduled for completion in August 2024.
Boeing was competing for the contract with other two giant companies; Lockheed Martin and General Atomics. Northrop Grumman was also invited to submit a bid, but dropped out of the competition last October.
MQ-25 is intended to provide the U.S. Navy with a much-needed refueling capability. Also, the MQ-25 Stingray will allow for better use of combat strike fighters by extending the range of deployed, Boeing EA-18G Growler, Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet and Lockheed Martin F-35C aircraft.
MQ-25 unmanned air vehicles will also provide continuous integration with a carrier’s catapult and launch and recovery systems.
