Military intelligence report received on 29th August 2018 at about 0800 hours indicate that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) operating in Lamu County were ambushed between Kiunga and Mararani area, within Boni Forest enclave.
The KDF soldiers who were on a humanitarian and civil mission to fetch and distribute water to the residents in the general area of Kiunga and Mararani, hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along Kiunga and Sankuri road.
Following the Al-Shabaab perpetrated IED attack, ten (10) KDF soldiers were injured and five (5) succumbed to their injuries. The ten critically injured are currently receiving medical care.
Locals have been urged to cooperate with KDF-soldiers by providing much needed human intelligence (HUMINT), to assist in eliminating and annihilating terror elements in their midst, besides pacifying Lamu County.
