Recent open source reports from Somalia indicate that nearly a dozen Al-Shabaab operations were arrested in a major mop-up operation in Mogadishu and its environs.
Following on intelligence tip-off, Somali security forces raided key roads of Mogadishu, stopping the traffic movement.
The troops closed the Maka Al-Mukarama road which one of the busiest in routes in the city.
The mop-up operation started on Monday 5/6/2018 with security forces deployed around the main streets of the town.
The operation that saw to a dozen of Al-Shabaab operatives being arrested is expected to continue during and after Eid ul Fitr celebrations. The arrested will undergo interrogation for more leads, a colonel with SNA was quoted saying.
The mop-up operations came after the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab militants carried a number of ambushes targeting Somali troops and allied forces in several towns in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.
