Kenya’s security has been scaled up in many parts of the country and especially in parts of North Eastern and Coastal regions. The heighten security along the Kenya-Somalia border counties follows warning reports that the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab may mark the end of Ramadhan with an attack.
Police spokesman Charles Owino, confirmed that Kenya security agencies are on high alert as Ramadhan period draws to a close on Friday. He affirmed that security officers drawn from KDF and Police service have adequately been deployed in attack prone areas.
Security forces have been deployed in Witu, Mpeketoni and other areas in Lamu county where there are fears of possible attacks after the Al-Shabaab elements were spotted in Boni Forest.
“As we prepare to celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters the Eid ul Fitr holidays, we have increased deployment of our officers in the Boni area, particularly the area between Witu and Mpeketoni in Lamu County,” he stated.
