The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has released a statement saying that an airstrike in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia killed 10 al Shabaab militants. The airstrikes were conducted on May 23rd at the terrorist positions located 15 miles south-west of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The statement further said that there were no civilian casualties in the strike that was a response to al Shabaab presence near the country’s capital.
The U.S. says it will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect its citizens and to disable terrorist threats in Somalia.
The US has stepped up its strikes against al Shabaab in the past few months in a bid to eliminate the deadly al Qaeda-affiliated terror organization that has posed a great threat in the Horn of Africa region.
