Kenyan authorities seek Russia’s support in recognizing Al-Shabaab as global threat and not just a regional one.
Speaking on Tuesday 22/5/2018, Dido Rasso, a member of the Kenyan National Assembly Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations emphasized on importance of super-power countries such as Russia to intervene and use its diplomatic influence to help recognize, the Al-Qaeda (AQ) branch operating in East Africa as global threat.
He pointed out that Al-Shabaab menace cannot be singled out only as a regional issue affecting East Africa countries rather than a global issue that need to be voiced at the highest level of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
It will be a plus if Moscow could help Nairobi fight terrorists; support with drones and technology that is able to find out their hideouts and their weaponry.
Kenya troops are fighting Al-Shabaab in Somalia and in retaliatory to the incursion, the AQ-linked Al-Shabaab has staged a number of attacks disrupting peace especially in northern Kenya and coastal regions.
