Al-Shabaab suicide car bomber targeted a military convoy outside of Mogadishu on Tuesday. According to al-Shabaab, 12 US trained Somali Military Commandos were killed during the attack.
A statement by the Somali Military says that five commandos were injured during the attack.
The military truck carrying the soldiers was also destroyed during the attack that happened in Afgoye, a district located 30km northwest of Mogadishu.
Al-Shabaab has targeted Somali Military Commandoes on the same road several times.
Abdiasis Abu Musab, Alshabaab’s military operations spokesman, said they were responsible for the attack.
One of the aims of al-Shabaab is to force out AMISON peacekeeping force, which has helped defend the government of President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed.
