A family of suicide bombers in Indonesia on Sunday, where suicide bombers detonated explosives at three churches around Surabaya, the country’s second-largest city.
Police reports confirmed that a husband and wife used their four children in a string of deadly attacks in the Indonesian city of Surabaya killing seven people.
The family included two daughters, aged 9 and 12 years old. The young girls were present when their mother detonated one of the bombs, and the couple’s two teenage sons carried out a separate attack on another church. The six bombers, all died in the blasts.
Chronology of Events
Sunday Morning; 13/5/2018: The father, identified by authorities as Dita Sopriyanto, drove a van to the Indonesian Christian Church and dropped off wife Puji Kuswat and their 9- and 12-year-old daughters.
The wife and daughters went inside and detonated a bomb.
The father then drove the van to the Pentecost Central Church, where, from inside the vehicle, he detonated another bomb in front of the church.
Separately, their two sons aged 16 and 18 drove motorcycles strapped with bombs into another church on Sunday morning and detonated their payload.
The parents were thought to belong to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, an Indonesian terrorist group whose leader pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2014.
