The Police in Kenya has issued a warning about imminent threats in the East African from the al Shabaab during the coming month of Ramadhan. Charles Owino, the police spokesman called on Kenyans to remain vigilant against possible attacks during the course of Ramadan.
The alert by Kenya’s police was issued after reliable intelligence indicated that the al Shabaab leadership had issued statements urging its members to step up attacks during the month-long period. Both the al Qaeda and ISIS-affiliated factions are said to be on similar order from the leadership based in different parts of Somalia.
The police further called for continued vigilance by the public urging them to report any suspicious individuals either along the common border with Somalia and within main towns.
The warning comes just a day after the US government warned of major terror attacks in Kenya, targeting schools and churches. Possible targets were identified as tourist locations, transportation hubs and other busy public places, hospitals, and churches.
Kenya and AMISOM troops in Somalia have also stepped up security in Somalia and along the Kenya-Somalia border to ensure that the militants do not cross over to carry out attacks in the country especially during the holy month.
