Somali security forces have taken control of several districts in Hiiraan region in an offensive against al Shabaab terrorists in the area. Security officials maintain that the operation was conducted based on information from the public about the possible location and citing of an al Shabaab cell.
At least 30 al Shabaab militants were killed in the operation in the operation an area that connects Beledweyne, Mahas and Matabaan districts. The attack against the al Shabaab comes a few days since Uganda announced the deployment of a new contingent of close to 2000 soldiers to join in the fight against the militants.
