Somali National Army is set to commemorate the 58th anniversary since its establishment with ceremonies happening at different barracks across the country. SNA was established on 12th April in 1960 after Somalia got its full independence.
Minister for Defense, Mohamed Mursal, Chief of Army, Army Force Commander and several other officials the military and the government is expected to the ceremony of the commemoration of the Army Day which is scheduled to take place in Mogadishu.
The army which disintegrated when the civil war 1990s was re-established during the former transitional Somali governments.
SNA soldiers backed by continental forces have been battling Al-Shabab in different parts of the country for a decade. The celebrations are set to be bigger this year seeing as the SNA is working to integrate all state soldiers to form one comprehensive military under the federal government.
This year’s celebrations are also set to highlight the gains the SNA has recorded in the fight against the al Shabaab which is weaker than ever with most of its camps dismantled and support frameworks decapitated.
