Somalia’s speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Mohamed Osman Johari has resigned after several weeks of political impasse in the country. The tensions spewed a temporary control of parliament by AMISOM last week.
The move comes after long talks between President Farmajo and the speaker twenty fours before the latter announced his resignation.
Over 100 lawmakers of Somalia’s parliament tabled a motion to oust Jowari accusing him of impending the constitutional review process, abusing power and suppressing MPs in parliament.
The resignation has been viewed by many as a crucial step in rehabilitating and stabilizing the country’s political system an important aspect of ensuring that the country weathers turmoil and a strong system is in place for when African Union peacekeepers leave Somalia.
