Four siblings in the UK have reported their parents to the counterterrorism police for exposing them to extreme ideologies as well as forcing them to watch violent videos of ISIS beheadings. The siblings aged 10,14, 16 and 18 through the eldest said that they were kept at home, did not attend school and were kept socially isolated, only being allowed out once in every three weeks.
The family is of Somali origin and has been living in Midlands, and the details of the ‘physical and emotional’ abuse by the parents were revealed during a court hearing. The children have complained that their parents expressed support for extremist violence and had expressed anti-Semitic, anti-British, homophobic and anti-white views in the home, which the children reject.
The parents being of Somali decent poses a major threat to the children seeing an al Qaeda affiliate has been operational in the country for close to two decades. Moreover, cases of children being exposed to violent extremism by their parents are on the rise in the recent years.
