Al Shabaab has claimed that they ambushed an Ethiopian Army convoy in Yarbaale village located 30km from Beledweyne town. The terror group issued a statement claiming to have burned down armored vehicles and killing some Ethiopian soldiers. Heavy fighting that lasted for hours had flared up in the area earlier on Sunday, following number of militants armed with RPGs and machine-guns had clashed with African Union soldiers.
The al Shabaab have been conducting attacks against troops’ positions across Somalia seeing as a way to ease the pressure on their depleted resources. In the previous weeks, the al Shabaab has suffered major setbacks seeing as some top commanders have defected as well as an intensified crackdown on the their positions by AMISOM-SNA and US airstrikes.
