Military reports from Somalia indicate that the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia dealt yet another huge blow after the US-backed Somalia Commandos raided their camp in Jame’o village in Middle Shabelle region.
Reports indicate that following on intelligence tip-off, US and Somalia commandos stormed the camp during the night and killed several extremists including four of their local senior commanders.
The raid also saw dozens of kidnapped children rescued according to report from the Somali intelligence. Recently there have been reports that Al-Shabaab was kidnapping children to forcibly join their military training camps.
The recruitment of children is a long-standing practice of the Al-Qaida-linked group which is facing a growing military pressure across south and central Somalia.
Thirty minors (30) were rescued in the overnight raid, Somalia’s information minister, Abdirahman Omar Osman, confirmed to the local and interntional media saying the operation to rescue more children from the enemy will continue.
