Senior ISIS commander has been killed in US airstrikes in the northeastern part of Somalia in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia. According to a Twitter message by the information minister Abdirahim Omar Osman, the slain commander was Abdulaziz Gure, who serves as the logistics commander for the pro-ISIS faction of al Shabaab.
According to the United States African Command (AFRICOM), the airstrike occurred in the late afternoon in Boholle,70 km east of Bossaso. The strike was conducted in line with the recent campaign by the US in collaboration with local assets and security agencies.
The pro-ISIS faction has been trying to amerce territory within Somalia since 2015 a move that has been met with numerous ground and air strikes to root the radical elements located in the northern region of Somalia.
