Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have destroyed six al Shabaab camps in Boni Forest, Lamu county and killed several militants and injuring others. The transit camps were created by the militants as hideouts and bases of operation as they planned to conduct attacks in various parts of Lamu.
According to Boni Enclave Campaign director Joseph Kanyiri, they security forces also recovered weapons includes AK47 rifles, grenade making tools, food, medical supplies as well as several rounds of ammunition.
In September 2015, the national government launched the ‘Linda Boni’ operation with the objective of flushing out the Al-Shabaab elite group Jaysh Al-Ayman from Boni Forest. Mr Kanyiri added that the crackdown on militants in the forest would continue until they are all eliminated, and it has intensified as intelligence reports maintain that Kenyan al Shabaab fighters are fleeing from Somalia for fear of persecution.
