The US forces continues to target Islamic State (ISIS) operatives network in the African country of Somalia. The forces also have been battling Al-Shabaab, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia.
According to latest report from US Africa Command, or AFRICOM, the forces conducted two separate airstrikes against ISIS, in northeastern Somalia on Nov. 3, killing several terrorists.
In the AFRICOM press release, the forces reiterated of their commitment in fighting terrorists saying they will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures to protect Americans and to disable terrorist threats.
The forces also noted of partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces (SNSF); targeting terrorists, their training camps and safe havens throughout Somalia, the region and around the world.”
US airstrikes hit an Islamic State operational base in the village of Buqa, south of the town of Qandala near the Bari Mountains in Somalia’s semi-autonomous region of Puntland killed several ISIS-linked terrorists.
Prior to the raids, the US air campaign in Somalia focused exclusively on Al-Qaeda’s network in East Africa, known as Shabaab. There have been 15 such strikes recorded against Al-Shabaab so far this year, 13 of which occurred since the beginning of June. The targets have included an Al-Shabaab command center and logistics base, a group of terror operatives as they massed for an attack in the south, and a senior leader in the Mogadishu Attack Network.
