Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir promised his Somali’s counterpart Mohamed Farmajo that his country would exert utmost efforts to ensure the peace and stability in Somalia. The two presidents held bilateral talks during Farmajo’s official visit to Sudan last week. Al-Bashir maintained that the ultimate goal of was to employ Sudan’s potentialities to achieve peace, stability, and unity in Somalia which has suffered instability and insecurity in the past two decades.
The meeting focused on the security and economic situations in Somalia, its external relations with neighboring countries, Sudan’s contribution to fighting drought in Somalia, and Sudan’s role in restoring security and stability there, according to the Sudanese president.
The promise by Sudan is expected to offer a boost to Somalia especially seeing that the United States has lifted the economic sanctions imposed o Sudan for the past two decades. The relations between Somalia and Sudan have been cordial based on the brotherhood, blood relations and like agenda for their citizenry.
