Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia confirmed the killing of the group’s senior commander in U.S. aided airstrikes.
Ali Mohamed Hussein also known as Ali Jabal was killed in July by U.S. airstrikes alongside several other jihadists.
Ali Mohamed Hussein or Ali Jabal was pivotal in Al-Shabaab’s operation planning and his death is a huge blow to a group that has lost several of its top ranking commanders in the hands of SNA and AMISOM.
Somalia military sources last month noted that Jabal’s death was a huge success saying it would reduce Al-Shabaab’s ability to conduct senseless acts of violence against the people of Somalia, its East African neighbours, and the international community.
Al-Shabaab extremists have carried out frequent attacks in the capital Mogadishu in a bid topple Somalia’s Western-backed government and drive out African Union peacekeeping troops.
