AMISOM troops in Somalia have received a boost after a new battle group from Burundi arrived in the country to relieve the old battalion. The 45th battalion of the Burundi National Defense Forces (BNDF) arrived in Somalia to commence their yearlong tour of duty under the able command of Lt. Col. Philbert Hatungimana as the replace the 39th battalion completing its rotation.
The troops expressed enthusiasm in their ability and preparedness to continue the good work of restoring and maintaining peace and stabilizing Somalia. The new battalion will be deployed to Jowhar, the headquarter of HirShabelle state, and will collaborate closely with the Somali security forces in securing the region.
The new deployment is a clear indication of the commitment of Burundi in maintaining the security of the East Africa nation seeing as it was the second country to send troops into Somalia to Uganda.
