The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) on Thursday confirmed the killing of at least seven Al Shabaab militants in Jilib, Somalia following a joint effort with the Somalia security forces on Wednesday and Thursday. The US military confirmed that the special forces positioned in Somalia conducted three precision airstrikes that killed at least seven insurgents and injured unspecified others.
The released statement echoed US’ commitment to overrunning the militants in the EA region “The US forces work closely with Somali troops against Al-Shabaab in Somalia to degrade the Al-Qaida affiliate’s ability to recruit, train, and plot external terror attacks throughout the region and in the US.” The airstrikes come after a series of targeted airstrikes in the country earlier in the month with intelligence on the ground indicating the degradation of the militants in most parts of Somalia.
