Police in Lamu are combing the vast forested areas in Milihoi after a number of suspected Al-Shabaab operatives were sighted on Tuesday.
Sources reports that the sighted figures were armed, wearing military uniforms and carried black flags used by Somali-based Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri confirmed of receiving information from one driver plying Mombasa to Lamu. The officers were dispatched immediately to comb the area.
The commissioner said the crackdown will go on until any threats are addressed and said there was no cause for alarm.
He called on all public transport vehicles to ensure they are escorted by armed police and that those who breach the law will be liable for punishment.
The County Boss called for vigilance from members of the public and said that any suspicious person or activity be promptly reported to the police to swift action and interventions.
