U.S. President Donald Trump while addressing the leaders of dozens of Muslim-majority countries in Riyadh Saudi Arabia on Sunday, urged them to take lead in combating extremism.
Trump made the remarks in his speech in what is seen as an effort to reset U.S. relations with the Muslim nations.
Addressing more than 50 Arab and Muslim leaders, the U.S. President noted of a common goal in the region: to aid allies in rooting out terrorism.
President Trump vowed U.S. support in the fight against extremism but called on Middle Eastern nations to step-up efforts in combating radicalization and deny terrorists refuge on their territories.
The enemy can only be defeated if the forces of good are united and strong. Trump noted that the need collaborate against the evil forces and prevent terrorists from gaining a foothold on their territories.
“Drive them out,” he exhorted. “Drive them out of your places of worship. Drive them out of your communities.”
“Honestly confronting” Islamist extremism and terrorism “means standing together against the murder of innocent Muslims, the oppression of women, the persecution of Jews, and the slaughter of Christians”, Trump was quoted in his address.
