Russian security forces in a counter-raid destroyed a cell linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) in the country's Dagestan region, Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC) reported Sunday.
According to NAC and the Ministry of Interior, Russian forces killed one ISIS militant and detained three others to give out more information on their operations in the Republic of Dagestan.
NAC further revealed that the four suspects plotted attacks on government bodies and local residents in Dagestan.
Dagestan is a bastion of Islamist insurgency in the North Caucasus close to the conflict-ridden Middle East.
Repeated violent attacks have plagued the region for years.
