Thousands of residents lined the streets of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu rejoicing the win of Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
Filled with optimism and hope, they lit up skies with celebratory gunfire on Wednesday evening following Farmajo’s historic rise to the Presidency.
President Farmajo, the former Prime Minister, rose to Somalia’s highest office after flooring his worthy competitors whom included the incumbent Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Farmajo clinched the win in round two, when round three was about to begin, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that he concedes. He received a roaring ovation from the Parliamentarians.
Minutes after the official announcement, thousands of supporters to the streets including SNA soldiers who saluted their president with volleys of gunfire.
Mogadishu residents quoted by open sources in Somalia believed Farmajo will change Somalia.
Similar sentiments were heard in Beled Weyne, Kismayo and other parts of Somalia welcoming a leader who enjoyed broad support from different regions Somalia.
