Somali National Army backed by African Union troops in Somalia have on Tuesday regained control of Mir-tugo area near Mahaday town in Middle Shabelle region.
AMISOM Force Spokesperson, Joe Kibet and referenced by Somalia media including Somali National News Agency (SONNA), the joint forces conducting military operation against the Al Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab registered success Tuesday morning when they repelled the militants without much resistance.
The militants started fleeing upon learning the joint forces were crossing down on them, Kibet added and stressed the operation will continue until the area is cleared of Al-Shabaab militants.
Separately SNA together with forces from Southwest State captured El-Garas and Tiyeglow towns in Bakool region in an effort to improve security as lower house elections continue at administrative capitals across the country.
