Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) on Thursday 11th August 2016 arrested a terror suspect of Yemeni origin at Likoni ferry channel as he was crossing from Mombasa to Likoni.
The 30 year old suspect identified as Mohammed Waleed was seeking direction to enter Somalia from a member of who immediately alerted Likoni police Station.
Upon interrogation, it was suspicious that the Yemeni national came to Kenya via air but opted to go back using ship saying he boarded it thinking it was heading to Yemeni.
The regional ATPU squad grilled him and upon search, the police found a Military combat and a Yemeni passport with the suspect.
Mombasa County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim confirmed the 11 am arrest without disclosing much information only saying investigation was going on.
The crowded Likoni ferry channel is of concern to the security agents with police deployed being on alert. Public also called to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or individual to the nearby authorities.
