Somali Commandos also known as ‘Danab’ on Monday 25th July 2016 launched counter-terrorism operations targeting key areas held by Al-Shabaab militant group in Lower Shabelle region, southern Somalia.
Report from state-run Somali National News Agency (SONNA) indicates that the Commando’s raided Al-Shabaab areas, capturing Aw-dheegle, Bariire, and Mubarak.
The three captured localities were very strategic for Al-Shabaab militants' operations.
According to army commander, Hassan Abdukadir the operation against the militant was a success with corresponding reports from local resident saying dead bodies of more than 70 Al-Shabaab militants were seen scattered everywhere from across the said localities.
The commander added that the military operation in Lower Shabelle region will continue with an aim of completely destroying Al-Shabaab bases and terminating their operations.
