Hundreds of people staged demonstrations in Libya on Wednesday protesting against French military presence and calling the Libyan unity government to intervene.
Libyan national unity government then issued a statement Wednesday evening accusing France of “violating Libyan territory”.
The statement posted on government’s Facebook page said “nothing justifies an intervention without our knowledge and without coordinating with us”.
French President Francois Hollande confirmed on Wednesday for the first time the presence of French troops on Libyan soil.
French defense ministry had earlier announced that three of its soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash during an intelligence mission near Benghazi.
