Two suicide bombers in NE Nigeria detonated their explosive vest killing themselves after vigilantes intercepted them on their way to attack a Mosque in the troubled northeast city of Maiduguri.
Police report indicate that the bombers were targeting worshipers who were observing night prayers at the Mosque, but upon learning their mission would not succeed killed themselves.
According to police spokesman, the two suicide bombers were strapped with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) targeting worshipers at the mosque.
"But they were halted by the Civilian JTF before reaching their target forcing them to detonate their IEDs and killing themselves," Isuku (spokesman) said.
A team of the Police Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) has since been deployed to the scene near Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot to further screen the area for any un-exploded explosives.
