Former Chadian President Hissène Habré and ex-dictator was on Monday 30th May 2016 got a life sentence for war crimes.
The African Union-backed court in Senegal through Justice Gberdao Gustave Kam announced the verdict declaring the former president guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Habré was charged of war crimes, crimes against humanity including rape, forced slavery and kidnapping.
The Judge however, declared that the former president’s property would not be confiscated as requested by Senegalese prosecutor of the court.
Habré henceforth will spend the rest of his life in the camp Manuel jail near Dakar. After the sentence by the Judge, there was jubilation outside the courthouse on the families of the victims saying justice has been served after years of court battles.
