The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) issued a statement early Wednesday 25th May 2016 confirming the killing of approximately 21 terrorists fighting for the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia, Harakat Al-Mujahideen movement (HSM) at Hawina village in Dhobley area of Lower Juba region of Somalia.
In the statement, the army reported it recovered 17 Kalashinkov assault rifles (AK-47), 2 Rocket Propelled Grenade Launchers (RPGL), 5-Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG). and assorted ammo.
The mid morning (10:00Hrs EAT) operation was largely a success to KDF. The army didn't suffer any injuries. The army troops were on regular patrol when they came under fire.
Intelligence show's Al-Shabaab conducted a probing attack using a lone gunman. Army marksmen traced source of the gunfire, strategically deployed and conducted the operation killing 21 jihadist terrorists and wounding dozens others.
