Kenya has maintained its stance on the decision to close down the world’s biggest refugee camp, Dadaab complex.
Speaking at the World Humanitarian Summit held in Istanbul Turkey, Kenya’s Deputy President who was leading a Kenyan delegation maintained the government decision to close Dadaab refugee camp is final.
DP Ruto noted that Kenya has been faithful to her international obligations if humanitarian assistance with minimum support but now the country cannot shoulder burden of humanitarian responsibilities at the expense of the national security and that of her people.
Ruto called on international community to support the settlement of Somalia returnees once repatriated back to Somalia.
Dadaab complex has been at the center of large scale attacks by Al-Shabaab terrorists conducted in the country including Westgate mall attack, Garissa University College attack and Lamu Mpeketoni massacre.
Kenyan leaders from northeastern region have fully backed the government decision to repatriate nearly a half a million refugees back to Somalia.
