Joint military operation between Nigerian army and Cameroonian forces has left Boko Haram terrorist group less 22 fighters and 3 of their commanders.
Military reports indicate that Nigerian army in collaboration with Cameroonian forces inflicted heavy losses to the militants killing 22 fighters and 3 commanders.
Nigerian Air Force (NAF) using F-7 NI fighter jets pounded Boko Haram’s logistic base in Kangarawa, Borno State.
According to the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, in a statement, troops of 152 and 155 Task Force Battalions at Operation Lafiya Dole in collaboration with troops of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) from Cameroon, launched a massive joint clearance operation on Boko Haram terrorist’s positions on Monday 11th April 2016, along Nigeria-Cameroon borders.
“Unprecedented clearance operation swept through over 10 suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts along the border in which they killed 22 terrorists, arrested three Ameers (commanders) and rescued abducted persons.” Usman said in his statement.
During the operation, he said the troops cleared Nbaga, Bula, Dabube, Ybiri, Greya and Suduwa towns and other adjoining settlements.
The raids also saw apprehension of terrorist’s commanders including Lawal Abba, Mallam Hisna and Mallam Gana in Shatte, Bulla Jaja and Bula Burra towns,” he disclosed.
In the joint military operations, the troops also rescued 1,275 persons held hostage by the terrorists noting that the rescued persons being administered and screened by 152 Taskforce Battalion pending onward movement to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.
Nigeria based Boko Haram pledged allegiance to Islamic State self-proclaim caliph Abu Bakr al Bagdadi in 2014.
