
Pentagon has confirmed that its military carried out a drone strike in Somalia targeting senior leadership in Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
Friday 1st April 2016, Pentagon’s Press Secretary Peter Cook reported that a senior figure in the Al-Shabaab ranks who has overseen attacks resulting to deaths of foreigners including three U.S. nationals was killed by the drone strike.
Dhore a key figure in Al-Shabaab Amniyaat wing (Al-Shabaab’s security and intelligence wing) responsible of plotting key attacks in Mogadishu Somalia was eliminated from the battlefield.
The killing of Dhore will be a significant blow to the Somali based Islamist group’s operational planning and ability to conduct successful Federal Republic of Somalia, its citizens, U.S. partners in the region, and against Americans abroad,” Cook’s statement said.
According to a defense official, the drone strike occurred about 20 miles from al-Shabaab stronghold town of Jilib, southwest of Mogadishu.
Hassan Ali Dhore, the Amniyaat commander was killed alongside two other members of Al-Shabaab he was travelling with when the airstrike hit his vehicle Thursday evening.
Al-Shabaab terrorist group is facing complete decimation. In Puntland, hundreds of Al-Shabaab, militants have been killed, 110 including child solders arrested, camps across Somalia have been destroyed by AMISOM and SNA.
Recently another U.S. drone struck with precision at a camp located some 195 kilometers north of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu where nearly 200 militants who were graduating after military training were all killed including senior commanders who had attended the ceremony.
Another unmanned MQ-9 Reaper drone strikes were launched on Al-Shabaab training camp in Raso, Hiiraan region, some 120 miles north of Mogadishu killing at least 150 militants.
The defense official said the U.S. military has been “watching him (Hassan Ali Dhore) off and on for a long time and that the Federal Somali government was involved in sharing information that led to a successful attack.
