Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a naval command post at the Lake Chad region geared towards strengthening the fight against Boko Haram.
The Naval outpost will work in collaboration with the current military bases in the northeastern region of Nigeria to provide support in the smoking out and eventual annihilation of the terrorists.

Nigeria is set to create a new naval outpost at the Lake Chad region to bolster and provide sea-support to the ground boots in the northeastern region of Nigeria which is the Boko Haram stronghold.
The outpost was approved the Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari and naval officers to be posted to the naval commodore are currently undergoing refresher training as the await deployment.
In preparation for the same, the Nigerian Navy has acquired 30 repellent boats with 50 more expected in May to enhance the security in the Niger Delta region a move that will decapitate not only the militant’s activities but also cross-border criminals that exploit the route.
Nigeria has improved surveillance capabilities and the regional maritime awareness capabilities hence protecting its entire territorial waters which yield at least 70-80 of the national wealth.
The naval outpost comes at such a time when the Boko Haram militants are exploiting Lake Chad to mount attacks not only on Nigeria but her neighbors too. A naval outpost will enhance surveillance and provide support in the event an attack is seaborne.
