Three aid workers of the Red Crescent Societies in the outskirts of Bardere city in Gedo Region have been released, by the al Shabaab after an unspecified amount of ransom was paid in joint efforts facilitated by local elders.
The aid workers were help hostage for a day before they were released by the al Shabaab after they gave strict orders that the crescent societies pull out their employees from the towns and villages in Gedo region especially those under the control of SNA and AMISOM allied troops.
Al Shabaab militants have resulted to kidnapping and asking for ransoms as a way of raising funds to run their operations in what is looking like desperate attempts to survive.
SNA and allied AMISOM troops have concentrated their efforts in fighting the militants on all fronts; they have choked their supplies, by barricading their supply routes. Their financial aid has been choked with sanctions on sympathizers and known financiers being investigated arrested and accounts frozen.
