February 18, 2016: Businessmen in Kenya’s Nakuru County and neighboring areas have been cautioned against an online criminal killer gang targeting them.
According to Nakuru OCPD, Musa Kongoli, the gang is using online trading platforms to identify profile and scout their targets before executing their plans. The gang members pose as online customers before luring traders to a meeting where they rob and or kill their targets.
Members of the public have been urged to exercise caution and adverse vigilance when buy and or selling thing using online platforms to avoid falling prey of the gang. They have been advised to only meet their potential customers in an open place and during the day keeping off from giving the gang any opportunity to execute their plan.
The warning comes after the past weekend killing of a civil engineer by people who had posed to buy his car only to kill him and dumped his body after advertising to sell his car online.
Cybercrimes are becoming popular in Kenya and African nations where there isn’t stable cyber security framework to carry out conclusive investigations. The public have however been urged to report any and all suspicious online activities as well as online individuals that directly or indirectly pose threats as well as be on the lookout for the said online killer gang.
