17th February 2016: The Australian government reaffirmed their travel advisory to Somalia following the recent attacks on a commercial flight, indiscriminate shooting at the beach restaurant, kidnappings and drive by shootings of foreigners in Somalia.
The level of the travel advice hasn’t changed from advising Australians not to travel to any part of Somalia. The advisory advised the citizens in Somalia to leave Somalia owing to the high violence and crime levels.
Australia doesn’t have a high commission in Somalia the one in Kenya serves both countries and such consular assistance for Australians in Somalia is limited.
Australia joins other countries in issuing travel advisory to Somalia following the recent attacks by the al Shabaab militants in Somalia against civilians, security agencies, AMISOM personnel and foreign nationals in the recent month.
