Wednesday 20th January 2016, Latest security reports indicate that 11 Somali nationals were arraigned in a Garissa court and were charged for being in the country illegally.
The 11 assailants include 2 women and 9 men were arrested in the intensified operations by the Anti-Terror Police Unit in Northeastern Kenya region.
The assailants appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira and were charged with being in the country illegally and without any legal documentation.
Anti-terror police intercepted them at Qabobey area within Garissa County through a tip-off from the members of the public after spotting them on next to a Toyota probox that initial investigation indicated had encountered some mechanical problem.
The driver reports say managed to escape.
The prosecution told the court that the accused were travelling from Liboi to Nairobi through Garissa town.
The 11on interrogated said they wanted to travel to Nairobi and had no intention of registering as asylum seekers citing they were arrested 90KMs from Dadaab town where asylum seekers normally register when they enter the country from war-torn Somalia.
However, the Magistrate released them on a Ksh 50,000 fine or six months imprisonment before they are repatriated to Somalia.
Despite roadblocks manned by security officers cases of illegal immigrants in the country have continued to be reported posing security threat to the nation.
Early this month, police in Embu intercepted four Toyota probox vehicles along Meru-Embu highway with 27 Ethiopian aliens being ferried in three private cars en route to Nairobi and later to South Africa
The arrest came only a day after four other Ethiopian aliens was nabbed in Isiolo.
