21st January 2016; Somali National Army graduated the highest unit of elite commando soldiers in the country after months of rigorous training.
The colorful ceremony was held in Mogadishu and was attended by Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and UAE Ambassador to Somalia.
Summary:
In a bid to strengthen her military capability, Somalia partnered with UAE to train an elite squadron of commando soldiers that will a valuable addition in the fight against al Shabaab.
The new graduates make the third unit of a kind equipped to fight the al Shabaab and adapt to the changing techniques of the militants.
The commando squad was trained by the UAE in intense series of cordon-and-search tactile, and other adaptable security skills to handle the al Shabaab militants.
Their graduation comes in the wake of al Shabaab split and the deadliest ambush on the AMISOM troops hence they will be a unique additional to the renewed resolve especially by the Kenya Defence Forces to smoke the al Shabaab out.
The graduates were seen to exhibit enthusiasm and unwavered patriotism through their ‘Do or Die’ slogan in reference to defeating al Shabaab by risking-taking and sacrifice.
