Al Shabaab and al Shabaab sympathizers on Wednesday January 20th released photos of the El-Adde attack on the Kenya Defence Forces Camp that left unconfirmed number of soldiers dead, injured and others yet to be rescued.
The graphic photos that show the militants’ attack aftermath with some even showing the militants allegedly inspecting military vehicles they had seized from the base site.
Terror organizations use the crude technique of disseminating graphic pictures, motion pictures and videos in an attempt to illicit fear and dampen the spirit of the opponents. They show the pictures as a way of evidencing what they are capable of in the documented animosity.
Al Shabaab have adopted the same art of psychological warfare in attempts to dampen the morale of the KDF soldiers at war and spread fear, mistrust and support both at home and among ally troops fighting under AMISOM in Somalia.
Al Shabaab has mastered the art of using their sympathizer to rapidly spread the images in the cowardly acts masked as a display of conquest.
The release has however been met by the Kenyan government with stringent tracking and prosecution of any and all sympathizers circulating the images in relation to the Terrorism Act of 2015.
Despite the desperate attempts by the militants to inflict both physical and psychological pain, the KDF and the people of Kenya have shown undeterred resilience with the troops launching multiple ground and aerial bombardments on al Shabaab positions. Kenyans have shown solidarity with the troops standing and supporting the troops both away on mission and at home by use trends like #IStandWithKDF, #SaluteOurKDFHeroes online alongside public vigils for the fallen heroes and donations to the bereaved families.
