EVENT SUMMARY
Kenya authorities ordered the closing of all quarries in Mandera County that nears Somalia border.
The authorities also ordered all the workers to vacate the quarry sites amid security concerns.
Al Shabaab militants which continue to pose huge threat to Kenya security in July this year raided and killed 14 quarry workers in Northeastern Kenya region.
In early December 2014, Al Shabaab militants also attacked 36 quarry miners as they slept in makeshift in the same County of Mandera.
With these precious terror events revolving quarries close to Kenya-Somalia border, nothing can be left to chance citing last week claims of the Somali based jihadist group alleging to have sneaked to NEP and lecturing on residents.
According to Mandera County Police Commander, Job Boronjo while addressing journalists, “It is our duty to protect the lives and property of Kenyan,” he was quoted.
Boronjo indicated the geographic proximity of where quarry miners work is prone to Al Shabaab raids and the government will do what it can to revert and neutralize any potent threat.
Citizen also urged to work closely with security agents by giving information/intelligence that may secure the country.
Meanwhile additional security forces have been deployed along the porous border while security border wall construction aimed at curbing Al Shabaab infiltration is still in progress.
