Somali National Army launched a major security sweep in Hiiraan area in Central Somalia targeted at flashing out and apprehending Al Shabaab militants’ hideouts on Saturday December 5th 2015.
At least 100 suspected militants were arrested and remanded into custody in the sweep that was conducted in towns and their outskirts of the former Al Shabaab stronghold.
Security officers removed three landmines at the Bulo Burde main livestock market foiling bomb attacks targeted at innocent market goers. Security officers in Hiiraan have significantly struggled with the attacks since the al Qaeda affiliated al Shabaab was driven out by the SNA allied troops.
