25th November 2015, in the wake of downing of Russian Sukhoi-24 by Turkish F-16s, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has issued a travel warning advising Russians not to visit Turkey.
The foreign minister issued travel advisory recommending its citizenry against going to Turkey. The minister also cancelled his planned visit to Ankara shortly after Turkey downed the Russian warplane.
Lavrov cited the critical mass of terrorist incidents on Turkish soils is no less than the threat witnessed in Egypt.
“For this reason of course we do not recommend that our citizens travel to Turkey for tourism or any other reason,” Lavrov added.
Turkey stands to lose economically and according to the Russian Tour Industry Union, there are currently around 10,000 Russian tourists in Turkey.
Moscow travel warning to Ankara has been followed by yet another harsh step where Russia’s military contacts with Turkey will be terminated according to Russian military announcement on Wednesday.
