24th November 2015, Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 warplane alleging it was violating Turkish airspace close to the Syrian border.
Turkish military officials briefing the media and cited by Reuters indicated Turkey had warned the warplane before being shot down.
According to Turkish General Staff, they issued warning to the Russian Sukhoi Su-24 jet ten times but it continued to challenge the two F-16s.
In a rejoinder, the Russian Defense Ministry has confirmed that Turkey has shot down Sukhoi Su-24 jet at the Syrian border but has disputed claims of violating Turkey’s airspace.
A private Turkish broadcaster (Haberturk TV) broadcasted the footage Tuesday the same day the shooting happened.
Separate footage on Anadolou news agency showed two pilots parachuting away from the warplane going down in flames.
NATO so far has not issued any statement at this stage.
